May 1, 2008 - EVANSTON, ILL. - Folks who go wild whenever the Northwestern University 'Wildcat' Marching Band strikes up a fancy drum line cadence between plays or makes precision forms during halftime at Ryan Field finally have something to satisfy their NUMB desires. Push On!, the latest installment in a series of recordings featuring the Wildcat Band, is now available.
The new album features twenty tracks of favorite halftime shows, stands tunes, the famous NUMB pre-game entry sequence, and of course Northwestern fight songs "Go 'U' Northwestern" and "Rise, Northwestern." The common moniker for the second tune, "Push On!," provides the title for the new release, which was recorded by the band during special sessions in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.
Director of Athletic Bands Mr. Dan Farris conducted the band in their recorded performance, and doctoral conducting student Travis Cross (GMu06) produced the recording. Charles B. Hawes (Mu67, GMu 70, G77) was the project's engineer. Asked about the new release, Farris said, "We're very happy and excited to have the CD out and appreciative of the support the NUMBALUMS have given the project."
The band's newest CD is funded by the NUMBALUMS, the official alumni organization of the Northwestern Bands. This is the third album sponsored by the NUMBALUMS, with the first being Contemporaries, featuring the Symphonic Wind Ensemble led by Dr. Mallory Thompson (Mu79, GMu80). The second was Hail to Purple, a 50-year retrospective of the music of the Northwestern University Marching Band that has sold more than 1,500 copies.
Push On! sells for $15 and is available in the Norris University Bookstore and can be purchased online here. The Wildcat Band's previous album, Hail to Purple, is also available online for $16. Online orders are processed by the NUMBALUMS and require an additional $5 shipping fee.
